About us

Hope Restoration South Sudan (HRSS) is a nationally registered, women-founded and women-led non-governmental organization established in 2010. Founded by Angelina Nyajima Simon Jial—a former refugee who lived in Kakuma Refugee Camp from 1991 to 2008—HRSS draws on deep lived experience to empower vulnerable populations affected by conflict, displacement, and natural disasters in South Sudan. Our organization is dedicated to promoting sustainable development, human rights, and peacebuilding with a special focus on women, girls, youth, and marginalized groups.

Operating across multiple states, including Unity, Upper Nile, Jonglei, Central Equatoria, Eastern Equatoria. HRSS implements integrated humanitarian and development programs that address the complex challenges facing communities emerging from prolonged conflict and crises. We focus on strengthening livelihoods, improving access to essential services, and fostering social cohesion to build resilient, self-reliant communities.

Our core thematic areas include gender-based violence prevention and response, economic empowerment for women, girls, and youth, food security and livelihoods, health and nutrition, water, sanitation, and hygiene (WASH), education, child protection, and conflict prevention and peacebuilding. Through these programs, we deliver lifesaving support while simultaneously addressing root causes of vulnerability and exclusion.

HRSS believes that sustainable change begins at the community level. We work closely with local leaders, government authorities, civil society partners, and international agencies to design and implement contextually appropriate interventions. Community participation, accountability, and transparency are pillars of our work, ensuring that the voices and needs of beneficiaries guide program development and delivery.

Our organizational culture is built on integrity, teamwork, and a commitment to upholding human dignity and rights. We are passionate advocates for women’s rights and gender equality, striving to end harmful practices such as early and forced child marriage and sexual and gender-based violence. Through capacity building, advocacy, and direct service provision, we seek to create environments where women and girls can thrive safely and with opportunity.

As South Sudan continues its journey towards peace and development, Hope Restoration remains a steadfast partner dedicated to healing wounds, rebuilding livelihoods, and fostering hope. Our vision is a society where justice, respect, and dignity are realities for all, and our mission is to secure livelihoods and empower communities through innovative, inclusive, and sustainable programs.
