Mayendit County, Unity State: Hon. Gattuor Riek, Director General of the Ministry of Gender, Child and Social Affairs, Unity State, together with Emmanuel Changun, UNFPA Unity State Coordinator (focal point), visited the Women and Girls Friendly Space (WGFS) in Tutnyang, Mayendit County, supported by Hope Restoration South Sudan (HRSS).

The visit formed part of a wider mission that included meetings with GBV and protection partners, the Police and the County Commissioner. The delegation then toured Women and Girls Friendly Spaces across Mayendit, including the HRSS centre, where approximately 250 women gathered to engage with the visitors.

During the visit, the Director General and the UNFPA focal point pledged support to the WGFS, which HRSS is the main supporter of in Southern Unity. This includes support for tailoring and other livelihood activities. The Director General also recommended that UNFPA restore funding to the centre, highlighting the current funding gap.

Objectives of the mission
- Meet local authorities, including the County Commissioner and the Police.
- Meet GBV and protection partners to learn about their plans for the 16 Days of Activism, strengthen coordination, and plan GBV case conference training and online training to be facilitated by UNFPA.
- Visit Women and Girls Friendly Spaces in Southern Unity to understand the challenges they face.

HRSS thanks the Director General, UNFPA, the local authorities and all partners for their commitment to women and girls in Southern Unity.
